In a highly mechanised world, force and torque are amongst the most important of all measured quantities. The precise measurement of torque occurring in rotating components, especially in automotive and aerospace applications, demands high standards and requires wireless data transfer. Since 2001 the Brunel Center of Manufacturing Metrology demonstrated that by using the new metallic triple-beam tuning fork technology many of the problems associated with currently used sensors could be overcome. In the first part of this book an overview about torque measurement in general and the new technology is given. Also some characteristics are investigated. The second part is about how to develop your own wireless communication system. In this part a radio frequency system is compared with a so called closed coupling system relating to the applicability in rotating systems. Also a software based strategy which simplifies matching antennas to a desired frequency range is introduced.
